Sheri Morte

Sheri Morte is an artist whose work navigates the delicate threshold between life and death, weaving themes of mortality, impermanence, and the eternal cycle of dark and light. Drawing on the traditions of memento mori, her paintings fuse gothic sensibilities with surrealism and the dreamlike, creating imagery that is at once haunting and luminous. Skulls, recurring throughout her work, become emblems of both fragility and resilience, reminders of the beauty that resides within transience. A lifelong creator, Sheri held her first solo exhibition, Impermanence of Existence, at The Gatehouse Ballarat in 2022. For her, art is both sanctuary and meditation — a space to lose oneself, to reflect, and to transform contemplation into something tangible. Beyond the canvas, she uses her practice as a way to give back, donating a portion of sales to small charities close to her heart. Through her work, Sheri invites viewers into a world that acknowledges beauty in darkness.
