My name is Toneya. I'm a proud Barkindji woman, connecting to my culture through art. The name "Barkindji" comes from "Baaka" the Darling river. My people lived along this river for thousands of years. I am a solo mother of two beautiful children. I have been painting for about 15 years, passing down what my late father taught me, and what i have learnt myself. For the most part, I am self taught. I love to paint the land and native wildlife, especially birds. As well as stories of my own experiences. And I love to create art to tell stories for others. I find it hard to stick to one style, and often love experimenting with new techniques and colour palettes. I only paint with acrylic, but also love creating other art and craft such as carved emu eggs and jewelry. Every single piece is created with love, and is a piece of me and my heritage.
