Like the Australian bush, where the barks on the trees are at their most textural and light plays on their surfaces, exposing crevices of colour and mystery, my intuitive abstract art is organic, constantly evolving and often best looked at through a view finder, creating a vignette of juicy bits to explore. With a mid-century childhood surrounded by dad’s professional photography and my mother’s hand colouring of his prints, I have grown up around an art form that created focus and drew attention to the subject matter in a very personal way. My work reflects their collaboration and is a re-interpretation of their skills. At this time I use photography and the print process to selectively capture the ‘juicy bits’, the small delicacies within my work, enlarging them and focusing on the parts that excite me most. These are the bits that light me up and I want them to stand out front and centre for all to see. Giclee printing is a high quality fine art process using specialised archival inks and I have chosen Canson Arches BFK Reeves white paper. This process results in exceptional colour accuracy, high resolution detail and longevity, producing museum quality reproductions, lending itself brilliantly to bringing those tasty morsels to life in full colour. An intuitive abstract artist, my visual language is organic and constantly evolving. Mark making is as vital as finding innovative ways to translate those marks into new forms of expression. I love to experiment, make things up and take creative risks whilst my knowledge of the elements of art and design is always there in the sub-conscious supporting my desire to make art that is personally satisfying.
