Terrie Stewart is a proud Taungurung woman and contemporary Aboriginal weaver. She grew up and continues to live in Naarm, on Wurundjeri Country in Melbourne, where she raised her three children.
Weaving is central to Terrie’s cultural practice and identity. Living away from her ancestral Country, she uses weaving as a way to reconnect with culture, story and belonging. Each work is an expression of togetherness, shaped by connection, sharing and the practice of keeping culture strong.
For Terrie, weaving is more than an art form; it is an extension of who she is as an Aboriginal woman. Her works are created with intention and care, carrying knowledge, resilience and quiet strength passed down through generations.
Terrie’s work invites connection to culture, to Country, and to one another and reflects the enduring role of weaving as both cultural expression and lived practice.
