Sally Darlison

Sally Darlison (b. 1962) studied Textile art and Visual Arts at Box Hill Institute during the 1990s and early 2000s. She is a multidisciplinary artist with a particular interest in combining stitch with different media. She has taught at many institutions, in private classes and workshops, including Box Hill Institute in the Textile Art Diploma , Grampians Textures, and as a Primary Art teacher for 25 years. Sally has exhibited widely for over 29 years in both group and solo shows. She has held 10 solo shows and has work in the collections of Box Hill Institute and Charles Sturt UNSW, Trinity Grammar, Melbourne, Emmaus College and Roberts McCubbin PS. Sally’s work is featured in a book – The Map as Art, ed, Katherine Harmon and several articles in magazines, such as Textile Fibre Forum and Fiberarts, over the past 25 years. In the past three years, she has completed two residencies: Newcastle Lighthouse and the NG Art residency in Provence, France. In recent years, Sally has been a judge for the Embroiderers Guild annual exhibition. She is also an active participant in the Naarm Textile Collective, showing at their Affordable Art Fair in August 2025. Sally Darlison’s work explores place, the journey to and from, and the relationship that we have with place. Sally particularly enjoys exploring new places, observing both the natural and the built environment. A multidisciplinary artist, she uses various media combining fabric, photos, maps, text and various printmaking techniques, to create artwork in several formats including artist books and framed works, using machine and hand stitch to draw, bind and link. Sally aims to share some of her awe of the world with others, highlighting the beauty of the natural world. She is particularly aware of the impact we humans have made and hopes that greater awareness will lead to greater care.
