I am a Melbourne based artist inspired by artists of the 17th Century, in particular those of the Dutch Golden Age. My interests range through many genres, including still-life, portraiture, landscapes as well as the occasional botanical or animal painting.
I also have an interest in the materials used by artists in previous eras and paint using flax oil (linseed) I have cleaned and sun thickened as was custom before modern alternatives. Along with using commercial paint brands, I also grind my own pigments allowing for a better understanding and control along with a greater variety of effects when painting.
Vanity, mortality & philosophy often appear as themes in my work and offer an opportunity for quiet contemplation in an often hectic world. I hope they serve as a window into a different space and as a reminder that in a time when we are seemingly never still, it is still important to stand in front of a picture and to look.
