Melissa Alvaro is a Melbourne-based visual artist whose work is inspired by the rich textures, tones, and natural forms found in the Australian environment. Her artistic journey began in childhood, driven by an instinctive urge to create. With a background in fashion, Melissa developed a keen sensitivity to materiality, which now translates into her use of acrylics, impasto, graphite, charcoal, gouache, and watercolours.
Deeply influenced by her Italian heritage and the Baroque tradition, her work often incorporates chiaroscuro—the contrast of light and dark—to evoke depth and emotion. Nature is a recurring muse, particularly the individuality of tree bark, which she sees as nature’s fingerprints.
Melissa has refined her skills through years of life drawing and recently expanded her creative perspective through interior design, gaining insight into how artwork can elevate living spaces. Her practice blends intuition, observation, and craftsmanship to create art that resonates with both place and spirit.
