Margaret Christianson is an Australian multidisciplinary artist whose practice bridges sculpture and painting, capturing the beauty and resilience of the natural world.
Her sculptures, crafted from corten steel, are cut by hand with a plasma cutter and welded in her workshop. This direct approach gives each work its own presence, reflecting forms from landscapes, shorelines, and nature.
Painting is also central to her practice. Using vivid colour, layered brushstrokes and an intuitive approach, her works capture the shifting light and movement of the natural world. Colour is not only visual, but expressive, shaping mood and connection.
Margaret regularly exhibits across Australia, with recent highlights including Changing Perspectives (Melbourne Society of Women Painters and Sculptors, MSWPS, Melbourne), WINTER Works on Paper (AWGallery, Montville), No Vacancy Annual (No Vacancy Gallery, Melbourne), Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show (Association of Sculptors Victoria, ASV, Melbourne), and her 2024 solo exhibition Metal and Paint at Red Gallery, Fitzroy North. Was a finalist in Sculpture on the Edge (SOTE) 2025 on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, solo exhibition GIFT at Gallery Unbound 2025 and Christmas/Summer Show at Bolin Bolin Gallery, at Bulleen Art and Garden, Bulleen.
This year VAS Summer Exhibition, 2026 at Victorian Artists Society, Melbourne and IWD Wild Sovereign at Gallery Unbound.
A recent highlight is the Emmy-Lou Memorial (2025), a corten steel sculpture of a kangaroo named Emmy-Lou, installed at Cape Hillsborough National Park in honour of her and the dedication of wildlife carers. This work reflects Margaret’s ongoing commitment to honouring the natural world and those who care for it.
