Lesley Rosochodski works in oils and watercolours, constructing fine nature art that negotiates the boundary between realism and expressionism. Drawing on a background of art education and a lifelong passion for painting, she builds works in which realism, character and whimsy carry equal weight as expressive tools. Her practice is rooted in the idea that painting— the slow, careful, physical accumulation of detail and layers, and texture or the illusion of it in a thoughtful composition — is in itself a form of description and story. Lesley studied art education, majoring in painting at Phillip Institute, RMIT. She began full time painting in 2018, winning the 2023 Woodend Art Group prize, after being awarded places in the Trentham Art Prize and The Kyneton Daffodil Art Prize. Her work also toured Australia's east coast as a finalist in the Bald Archy Prize for two consecutive years. Lesley has held several joint and solo exhibitions and her art has been exhibited throughout Victoria. Her paintings can be found in private collections nationally and internationally. Lesley exhibits regularly in selected regional galleries. She is based in Gisborne, where she is currently working on her latest exhibition.
