Lauren Findlay is a Melbourne-based artist whose practice merges figurative drawing and painting with explorations of time, space, and mythology. Graduating with a BFA from Monash University in 2009 and a BA in Gender, Sex, and Diversity from La Trobe University in 2018, Lauren’s artistic journey was reignited in 2021 during pregnancy. Her figurative compositions are deeply shaped by the energy of the models she works with, and are built through an intuitive use of vibrant colour and dynamic mark-making. Drawing inspiration from ancient Mediterranean art, mythology, and masters like Degas, Gauguin, and Kollwitz, Lauren gravitates toward malleable media such as charcoal, oil paint, and pastels that allow her to erase, rebuild, and carve out emotive forms.
