About the artist
Jeff arrived in Australia as a scrawny 8 year old in 1964 with his sister and parents. Dad worked for BOAC in London and accepted an offer to emigrate to Sydney and work for Qantas as an aircraft fitter. After two years living in the old army barracks at Matraville, they bought a block of land at Kirrawee in the Sutherland Shire. The block backed onto a gulley with a creek and a lot of bushland and it was there that Jeff established a close bond with the bush and its fascinating inhabitants, one of which (an Eastern Brown Snake) nearly ended his life at twelve years old.
“I developed an interest in photography in my teens but city life and it’s trappings had other ideas! It wasn’t until later in life that the photography bug was awakened from it’s slumber by me wanting to promote my bathroom renovation and building work by posting pictures onto social media. It wasn’t long before I joined the “Mackay Camera Group” and started to learn more about camera settings, composition etc. I have always used Canon cameras and lenses, but by a stroke of luck/fate I was recently gifted a collection of 5 Nikon lenses that were made for the DSLR Nikon cameras and they were all lenses that I didn’t have in Canon so I bought a Nikon D850 which I subsequently learned is one of the greatest DSLR’s ever made. So now I have a foot in both camps!”
