My name is Imi Oliver.
I live in Melbourne where I am inspired everyday by the changing weather. For me, it is a reminder that anything is possible.
I love to draw, and enjoy the process of enriching my drawings with shading to create depth, and details to engage curiosity. I love rich tones and mostly use coloured pencils, spending a lot of time layering to achieve the desired depth and texture.
I often create characters based on animals, but with people-like qualities. Behind these characters, I imagine elaborate stories. However, I enjoy trying to capture merely a moment of a narrative in my drawings, hoping that viewers are moved to question what could be happening at that time, what came right before, and wonder what may happen next.
I also love working with clay, and particularly like to make the type of characters I have just described - people with a story surrounding them. Using wire and fabric, I enjoy completing bodies for these ceramic creatures, and dressing them to reveal fragments of their personalities and situations. Again, I intend that viewers enjoy imagining the tale that surrounds the characters.
