Eira Chidgey is a mixed media abstract artist responding in an instinctive way to the world around her and daily domestic life; “My art practice is storytelling, it explores relationships, memory, moments with my children, music that moves me, and how ultimately these shared human experiences connect us to one another”. A background in textile design and a first class honours degree in Contemporary Applied Arts have created a love of surface texture and pattern resulting in multi layered works often featuring found materials and stitch.
The Space Between Where You Are And Where You Want To Be is from a body of work exploring and reacquainting with the Australian landscape after several years overseas. Colour, shape and texture are built meditatively and intuitively, mark making is playful, energetic and explorative; there is a sense of movement and freedom within the artwork, while the muted tones and restricted colour palette create a calm and grounding atmosphere.
Eira is a UK born artist based in Newcastle NSW, she is included in exhibitions and art prizes in both the UK and Australia and is included in private collections worldwide.
