My body of work consists of vessels of retrospection - containers holding the shifting stages of my life. While my story is personal, it’s fairly universal. I have childhood memories of family summer holidays that were always at the beach. As a teenager, I completed a SCUBA diving course and discovered another world underwater in places like Half Moon Bay, Port Fairy and Sorrento. I'm certain that I am not alone when at the beach, I still have that sense of the sea beckoning on a hot summer's day, when standing at the waters edge looking out to the horizon, overcome by a sense of optimism, freshness and spontaneity that I want express in my current work. In recent times, I have been developing a porcelain clay body that is very white, has plastic strength and where thin is translucent, which is an aesthetic quality that is not easy to attain. My cylindrical vessels and forms are slab rolled to make the walls for the cylindrical forms. As a Melbourne-based artist working across ceramics and gold and silversmithing, I'm drawn to slab construction, surface texture, material chemistry and sculptural form.
