Carol grew up in SE Queensland. She learnt to read and write by correspondence guided by her older sister. She loved roaming freely through the paddocks and bush on their 350ha dairy farm. Always a keen draughtsperson, she studied art in her senior years at school and qualified as a teacher. She taught in Queensland and Darwin for many years and moved to Tasmania in 2008 and to St Helena in Melbourne in 2024.
She is an accomplished painter having worked in watercolour, mixed media and oils. Her strong abstracted landscape images reflect a deep affinity with the bush and landscapes she has travelled and traversed particularly while bushwalking and camping. Carol counts among her major influences Aboriginal artists, Fred Williams, Vassily Kandinsky and Abstract Expressionism.
She has held several exhibitions of work and has been a key founder and organiser of the $20,000 Bay of Fires Art Prize in St Helens Tasmania, where she lived for 10 years.
Much of her work in this exhibition at Unbound references Tasmania’s rugged East coast as well as Mason’s Falls in Kinglake National Park.
Her work is held in private and international collections.
