Born in Bendigo where he completed his studies in 1981, Andrew has lived and practiced as a painter in Melbourne since 1987 and has held solo and group exhibitions since then. He has also managed the Araluen art studios at Lower Plenty and Rosanna, facilitating activities, developing exhibition program from 2005 to 2022, being involved in public projects since 1990.
Important influences include, the landscape of his birth, his studio and the process of creation, the influence of artists from Tarkovsky, Matsumoto to Fairweather, Wittgenstein's duck-rabbit, a fascination with masks, torn posters, cracked paint, rust and ancient Greek, pre-Columbian and Oceanic art. All this and more like an ocean of thoughts continually flowing, growing and changing.
Arresting and bold Andrew's paintings reflect our state of being, the way we perceive the world around us and create the pictures in our mind, exploring the relationship between our biology, nature, culture and technology.
