Venus NSFW (NSFW meaning content that is not suitable for work) is a modernized adaption of Botticelli’s birth of Venus.
The commentary of this work focuses around expression through taking a nude image and how an act that we have all done is often seen as unsavoury or taboo by many today, with the figure being pixelated in parts.
This work is a social commentary piece that delves into surrealism combined with realism, depicting a colourful vivid landscape with various modern elements – replacing the angels with doll angels, inserting a My Little pony toy instead of the maiden with the cloth, using a child’s sandbox clam instead of the realistic oversized clam and features the middle figure, holding a mobile device she is using to take a photo.
Created over 8 months, this work is also available as a limited edition print. Oil on canvas.
