When I go to my favourite places on the Bellarine, I like to notice. I look for what others might miss—the road less travelled. For this shot, I was in Point Lonsdale. A lot is changing in this area, but the old pier is a constant. As I looked down on the weathered structure, I realised everyone was walking along the top of the pier, heading toward some merging point in the distance. I wondered where they were going, and I wondered what was underneath away from the crowds. Climbing below, I was struck by how my gaze was instantly carried along the old bones of the weathered pier and out toward the horizon—drawn just like the people above me. The blotched beams, patinated planks, and silvery shadows converged and pulled me outward on a tide toward a single point, mirroring the journey happening overhead by the masses on the fading, weather‑worn pier. The light is exactly as it was—nothing dramatic, nothing special. The magic, the sole focus, comes from where your imagination takes each traveller on the journey to the square of light where ‘x’ marks the spot to a vanishing point, and to beyond.
