During his travels across Australia, Ffyffe explored the landscapes of Lake Eyre, the Simpson Desert and the Nullarbor Plain. These paintings invite reflections on the vastness and mystery of these places. Ffyffe said of these works ‘It is not so much about the Australian outback or landscape as such, it’s actually a metaphor for the internal journey… I am trying to express the spiritual and my paintings reflect that beauty and power as well as being a romantic way of talking about man’s search for meaning.’ The paintings were featured in 2001 exhibition Sunburnt Country at the Lamont Gallery, London.
