This is one of a series of paintings that explore the female vampire as a powerful and empowering cultural icon. The painting was originally part of the Divine Darkness exhibition (2024) at Red Gallery. Cats mirror this power. Their mesmerising presence tells a tale of independence and rejection of oppressive norms. This work adapts a sculpture of the Madonna and depicts her as transformed into a vampire. She is placed in a purpose-built box that is modelled on C16th and C17th mobile religious boxes used for prayer.
