Story behind the piece
Ruffle emerged from a fascination with how softness can be suggested through rigid materials. The form evokes gathered fabric or cascading folds, capturing a sense of motion frozen in time.
I am interested in objects that exist between categories, neither purely sculptural nor purely functional. By retaining its capacity as a vase, the piece invites an ongoing relationship with the viewer through use, touch, and changing floral arrangements.
Artist notes
My background in fashion design deeply influences my ceramic practice. In garment construction, layers of fabric are manipulated to create movement, structure, and harmony. With Ruffle, I sought to translate those principles into clay, allowing the material to behave like folded textile while maintaining its strength and permanence.
The glazing process involved building multiple layers to achieve depth and subtle tonal variation, echoing the complexity found in layered fabrics.
Included
One original ceramic vase sculpture
