Over the last couple of years I’ve been experimenting with colour, line and the decorative through the still-life genre. Drawing on my love of rich colour and the simplified form of the post-impressionists, I’ve focused on combining painted vivid colours and rhythmic lines with materials such as rhinestones, brooches and rich, embellished fabrics. The aim is to create an aesthetic that’s almost musical. Inspired by the art of Vassily Kandinsky, I was interested in works generating their own unique, musical playfulness. The other materials add textures that play off each other in the composition and create rhythm and movement. I want to a create a micro-spectacular aesthetic that’s influenced also by baroque art.
