‘Purple (Dis)Connection’ was shot during a magnificent sunset in Lake Tyrrell, in the Mallee district, in the north of VICTORIA. ‘Purple (Dis)Connection’ won a Highly Commended Award, at the Landscape Awards 2025 in the Landscape category. As the biggest shallow salt lake in Victoria, the water collected from the rain evaporates quite quickly making the reflections on the remaining water mirror like, in the driest parts of the lake. During winter, the lake is covered by around 5cm of water which gets the salt to evaporate quite quickly and is collected by Cheetham Salt in Sea Lake. Due to the combination of its salt crust, soil, water, and sunlight Lake Tyrrell is a paradise for photographers. We feel we are always connected to each other due to the great amount of technology that rule our lives. But are we that connected to each other? I feel that the more we are relying on technology to communicate, the more disconnected we are from each other. In this photograph, the disconnected telegraph lamppost symbolises this paradox of simultaneous human connection and disconnection.
