Making this kiln fired glass Pomegranate Tree was a special artistic exercise as I grow pomegranates in my front garden. I nurture my tree, pruning and fertilizing, watching for insects or cockies, waiting for the bulbous flowers to form fruit and grow to be luscious globes of goodness. I share them, consume them with pleasure, spend time de-seeding and freezing the arils to use until the following season’s crop arrives. They are a motif I often return to in my glass work, having previously created panels, vessels, jewellery and more. Highly symbolic of fertility, abundance and life; but also mortality, rebirth and eternal life; and further hidden desire. In psychology The Pomegranate Theory represents peeling away the layers and uncovering the complexities of human relationships. A deep and highly feminine fruit shown on a tree of life. An artwork which will look equally good hanging in a window or on a wall.
