Sheena Mathieson and I are sisters, and we are connected by the genetics of our parents. Our mother, amazingly, is still alive and healthy at 96 years of age – and remains a strong presence in our lives. She is the subject of the one of the two joint artworks that we have completed, “Our Mother who Art”. We painted from a photograph taken on her last birthday – she has a twinkle in her eye. I have painted a fence that divides us from her. My sister and I, stand united, and at the gate, always ready to assist. The path, cobbled in oats, symbolizes the rough path trodden throughout our lifetime relationship with her.
