This series is called ‘Journey’ because life is never a straightforward line. Each painting is inspired by a different aspect of life. Paths full of twists, turns, setbacks and growth. This particular painting is about language. When I was young, I was taught some language that I grew up using day to day, not realising its significance. But now I have children of my own, I pass that down to them. For example, hearing them say “Nakkan Ya” at the end of every phone call puts a smile on my face, knowing my kids are young, but they’re strong in our culture.
