Image of portrait oriented artwork depicting a portrait of a woman with black hair and textured white and blue hydrangeas adorning her head, with a soft light blue background. The artwork is framed in oak.
I Like Big Buds and I Cannot Lie celebrates diversity in the simplest of forms, inspired by my Indian heritage and Australian upbringing as a first-generation immigrant. It also comprises familiar concepts of the female portrait, combined with contemporary, textured floral features. There is a fusion between classical painting techniques and contemporary hydrangea elements, celebrating various creative styles in the one piece. At a deeper level, I Like Big Buds and I Cannot Lie encourages the audience to see beyond the skin colour of the individual and appreciate the beauty of the piece as a whole. Furthermore, it incites the viewer to welcome the light-hearted side of art whilst conveying integral messages about diversity and inclusion. The intention is to subconsciously nurture the audience to self-reflect upon their own thoughts and beliefs of our multicultural society, and celebrate the varying cultures and traditions that make up the Australian community. The fusion of two cultures is at the core of many migrant families and individuals in Australia, and reflects my own story and the creativity behind this original artwork.
