‘Galactic fasciculus’ is about the beautiful mess of life and nature. To me, it this piece represents a paradox of scale and of control. At the macro level, the perspective might be looking out at a galaxy in space (galactic). Equally, we could be zooming in to the microscopic level and admiring a bundle of neurons (brain cells; fasciculus is the word for bundled neurons).
The technique used is called Dutch pour and involves pouring acrylic paint that has been diluted with water onto a canvas painted white. A hairdryer is used to spread and shape the work. The end of a brush was then used to create small accents where the coloured paint meets the white paint. Here is where we get the paradox of control, where the artist can only have so much influence over how the work turns out.
