Ego is that voice inside us that tells us who we are our name, our past, our roles, our achievements. It clings to identity, to control, to being seen a certain way. But at some point, we start to feel the weight of it. The ego wants certainty, but life is always shifting. That tension is what Death of the Ego is about. The figures in this painting are in a moment of surrender. They aren’t fully solid, almost as if they are dissolving into something beyond themselves. That’s what happens when we let go of ego, it feels like falling apart, but really, it’s just making space for something deeper. The scattered shapes in the background remind me of how identity fragments when we stop holding onto it so tightly. I’ve felt this process in my own life. The moments where I stopped defining myself by my successes, my failures, or how others saw me. It’s uncomfortable, but also freeing. Painting this wasn’t just about the idea of ego death, it was about experiencing it, even if just for a moment. It’s a reminder that who we really are isn’t something we need to hold onto, it’s something we become when we finally let go.
