Originally created for an exhibition called I Dream In Colour, this piece came home and lived in my kitchen. I stared at it, thinking that something was missing. I tossed around ideas, and suddenly, it hit me. Embroidery! I’ve been obsessed with learning this medium, with it’s rich history of women’s craft. I wanted to incorporate it into my paintings. My first major piece, I used a canvas print of one of my paintings- too afraid to screw up the original. I spent over 100 hours stitching, and occasionally poking myself with the needle but it was a success in my mind.
Dream Walking is the first piece where I dared poke the needle through the original painting. Now she feels complete. Another layer of texture and depth to represent all the layers of our dreaming states.
