Rochelle Van Der Merwe - Polaroid Emulsion Lift on Glass in Standing Brass Frame
A window to freedom of imagination: books have always provided unexplored worlds of possibilities and hope. Libraries are the caretakers of so many universes. When I went to artist Rone’s exhibition, TIME, in the Flinders St Clock Towers (Melbourne, Australia), I was drawn to The Library, where I ended up spending the bulk of my time in, contemplating. It was there, in the slight crack of light, that her cascading black hair caught my attention, as she was looking up at Possibility. She was all of us – now, in the past and in the future to come. How many women before us have found their voice through the written word – vicariously and/or directly?
