Inspired by an afternoon boat trip from Hervey Bay to witness migrating humpback whales, Blue Depths focuses on a solitary female — returning to Antarctica after a season in warmer northern waters — whose magnificence, grace and power utterly overwhelmed me that afternoon. May she always travel safely.
