Drawing on my love of rich colour and the simplified form of the post-impressionists, I’ve focused on combining painted vivid colours and rhythmic lines with materials such as rhinestones. This piece marks an evolution in my still-life practice, exploring a “micro-spectacular” aesthetic that’s performative and plays with the shifting tactility of the surface. A ‘dark pop’ energy is generated by a deep black underpainting, which makes the vivid acrylic colours and sparkling rhinestone strips vibrate rhythmically like melodies across the surface.
